"La Rumba, une histoire d'allers et retours"

Chaque continent a sa rumba. A Cuba, le mot désigne un genre créé par les descendants d’esclaves, dansé, chanté en chœur et accompagné par des percussions. Aux Etats-Unis, «rhumba», avec un h (allez savoir pourquoi) est l’étiquette collée à toutes les musiques cubaines dès les années 20, à la suite du succès de El Manisero, la chanson de Moisés Símons. En Espagne, la rumba est une branche mineure du flamenco, influencée par les rythmes afrocubains et méprisée par les puristes. Et il existe une autre rumba, née sur les deux rives du fleuve Congo, fille de la passion des Africains pour les musiques venues des Caraïbes....

For the music of 'Kinavana', like the title combining Kinshasa and Havana, is both Congolese and Cuban. Rumba Cubano or rumba Congo, it’s all rumba.

Mûri de longue date, 'Orientissime' est un projet doté d’une extraordinaire ambition. A l’instar des rapprochements transatlantiques historiques entre l’Afrique et Cuba, il s’attache à reconstruire un pont culturel entre l’Afrique et l’Orient, faisant escale en Egypte.
On découvre dans cet album une cohérence artistique évidente tant la voix de Thione Seck se marie à merveille avec les sonorités orientales et indiennes. On déambule d’un continent à un autre sans qu’aucune frontière ne vienne entraver notre quête, elles s’effacent au son du xalam, disparaissent aux premières notes de sitar et s’ouvrent devant les accords du oud.
On peut ici véritablement parler de Musiques du Monde!

In the footsteps of the transatlantic musical pathway between Africa and Cuba, the "Orientissime" project attaches a great importance to the reconstruction of the equally important cultural bridge between Africa and the Orient, and their meeting point, Egypt.
There is to be found in this album an obvious artistical coherence, when Thione Seck's voice merges with Oriental and Indian tonalities.
We travel from one continent to another without boundaries or frontiers impeding our quest. They fade away faced with the sound of the Xalam, disappear when the Sitar's first notes start to resound and open up when faced with the Oud’s magic strings.
Here we can clearly talk about World Music!

Cantos is a new leading World Music label

The label mission is to release every year a few selected artist albums, either new or unreleased, and compilations of single or multi artists, with an absolute commitment to very high quality, original and specific offering.
2005 releases include Thione Seck, "Orientissime", Salif Keita & Kante Manfila, "The Lost Album", Kekele, " xxx", and compilations "Africa Mother of The Blues", "From Dakar To Cuba Swinging To The Rumba", " Once upon a Time Bollywood".
The album "Orientissime" from Thione seck, relased in June 2005, has been for six consecutive weeks ranked #2 in the "World Music album chart" managed by fifteen european radios including the BBC.
The first Cantos'compilation, African Rumba, received the famous ffff of the french leading cultural magazine Telerama.
After one year, Cantos has been ranked 15th World Music label in a worldwide ranking of 350 labels, ahead of major established labels such as Universal Jazz, Stern's or Sony.
Cantos initially focused on African Music, notably thanks to its partnership with Ibrahima Sylla, the leading African producer (Youssou N'Dour, Salif Keita, Ismaël Lô, etc), and is currently broadening its catalogue to Asia (India), Maghreb, Caribean and Latin America.

Cantos est un label distribué par Pias dont l'objectif est de sortir un nombre limité d'albums inédits et de grande qualité, à la fois albums d’artistes et compilations mono ou multi artistes : Thione Seck, Salif Keita, Kekélé, Le blues est né en Afrique, De Dakar à Cuba on danse la Rumba, etc.
Après un an d'existence, Cantos a été classé 15ème label World music dans un classement mondial de 350 labels réalisé par BBC World.
Le premier album d’artiste de Cantos, "Orientissime" de l'artiste Thione Seck, a été pendant quatre semaines consécutives classé 2ème meilleur album World sur le classement établi par la BBC et quinze autres radios spécialisées en Europe ("World Music Charts").
La première compilation de Cantos, Rumba Africaine, a reçu le prestigieux ffff Télérama.
Cantos se concentre principalement sur la musique africaine, notamment grâce à son partenariat avec Ibrahim Sylla, le plus grand producteur africain actuel (Youssou N’Dour, Salif Keita, Ismaël Lô, etc).
Par la suite, Cantos élargira son répertoire, à l'Asie (Inde), au Maghreb, aux Caraïbes et à l'Amérique latine
